Valentine’s evening the Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra gave a free concert. It was held on the beach in the Pocitos neighborhood of Montevideo.
We got there just as the conductor was introduced. We did not think they would even have the performance as it had rained just a few hours earlier and the sky was still dark with clouds. This was the first performance for their new conductor Ligia Amadio, she was terrific! The music was wonderful, the dancers extremely talented and the audience very appreciative of this special performance. The theme was Latin rhythms and featured a dance troupe as well as Candombe drummers and Murga artists all part of the Carnaval scene here in Uruguay. Two Tango performances were featured and the orchestra even performed The Mambo tune from West Side Story.
The crowd gave the performers a well deserved standing ovation after about a 1 1/2 hour performance. It was a wonderful concert we are so thankful that we attended.

Can I ask why you moved? Did you want to try a new country or did you feel unsafe there?
Hi Michele, We never once felt uncomfortable or unsafe in Ecuador. San Clemente is a wonderful community of families that watch each others backs. There is no crime to speak of, last I heard someone came on a porch and took a pair of sneakers and that was over a year ago. We moved because we wanted another adventure, we wanted to see new places and do new things. We are very bad travelers, Joe hates to fly and I am totally against living out of a suitcase in a hotel room. So how we have traveled since we left the US in 2006 is move to an area and stay for a while. We will be looking for a annual rental in the next several weeks east of here looking for a more permanent home in a smaller community. We love Montevideo but we are not really big city people, it is good for a while but yearn for a smaller town. FYI Joe and I have been married 42 years and moved at least 12 times while in the US. We are just doing what Joe and I do. Thanks for your question, Nancy PS if you are looking to move our home in San Clemente is still on the market. You should take a look.

It is always interesting- have been following you since Panama…however this is especially of interest because a member of our family 200 years ago was shipwrecked there and another branch of the family sprang up- one we know so little about….but through you we are learning.
